Hersham Village Golf Club commissioned SCd Architects to design their new entrance building that would become the new main entrance to the existing golf course and the new Adventure Golf course. The principle strategy for the new single storey clubhouse building is to form a new ‘hub’ that will be the new ‘show piece’ entrance for all the facilities.
The new building is designed to appear open and welcoming hence the front of the building is fully glazed to provide a transparent and inviting feel. The visitor is drawn into the building under a large over sailing entrance canopy that provides sufficient shelter to enable the inclusion of an external seating area. The pitched roof is derived from the form of the existing clubhouse; however, its use has been developed to create a dramatic over sailing roof that is supported by timber columns at the front which frame the entrance. Reference for the columns comes from the timber colonnade around the existing club house.
