SCd Architects were requested to design a contemporary 5 bedroom family dwelling in Burwood Park, Weybridge. The site provided a fantastic opportunity to create a beautiful and striking modern dwelling through the use of geometric forms and a minimal palette of materials.
With a total floor area of 7,500sqft, this property is split into two sections with an impressive two storey hallway running through the centre. This is intersected at first floor by a glazed walkway linking the two sides. At ground floor the hallway opens directed onto a covered terrace which can also be accessed from the kitchen.
The kitchen and day room has been designed as the heart of the house, with clear access to the garden this multiple function room will be the focal point for life in the home. The living room is located directly from the main hallway with ancillary rooms such as the study and TV room positioned to the side. The sliding glass wall to the garden enables direct access and un-compromised views to the garden.
Extensive Garage space is also essential to the design brief. To avoid large unsightly openings at the front of the property, the garages have been discretely located to the side with direct internal access into the centre of the house. This provided the opportunity to design strong visual access along its length through the creation of a natural stone spine wall leading directly to the front door.
Working with Levanter Developments, planning has been achieved under Delegated powers for this residential scheme of 14 contemporary apartments on Farnham Road in the centre of Guildford.
The planning application for Cavendish House, with developer Igloo Developments, has now been granted planning approval. The project incorporates 14 nos 2 bedroom apartments to a high level of specification. Construction is due to start on site during April 2015.
